Student Ministry Announcements - 9.29.08

Middle School (6th - 8th)

     Middle School Encounter - Middle School will meet this Sunday morning (October 5th) from 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Youth Room.  We are in our series; Christ-Like Defined, and this Sunday we will be talking about the Character of Christ, and how we are to seek to imitate His character in all that we do.  We will conclude our time this week in the worship service.

High School (9th - 12th)

     High School Encounter - High School will meet this Sunday night, (October 5th) from 6:15 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room.  We are in our series: Christ-Like Defined, and this Sunday we will be talking about the mercy of Christ.  In Christ, we see compassion and mercy in the way He treats others.  We are going to discuss our role to take on the "Mercy of Christ."

     Small Groups for High School meet periodically throughout the week in homes and at church.  (Small groups are divided by grade and by gender) If you are interested in your student joining a small group, please contact Dustin Hughes

We will be having our monthly worship night and monthly serve night towards the end of October.  Please stay tuned for more details on these things in the coming weeks.

Who The Heck is Dow Jones, and why should I care what kind of mood He's in?

I am a college educated person, in my late 20's who works a full-time salaried job, owns a house, and supports a family.  But I don't know a flippin thing about the econony!!  I realize this is mainly my fault.  Afterall, I get all of my news coverage from the bottom line ticker on ESPN and from Amy Poehler in Weekend Update on SNL.  I know, not the best of sources.  But I would argue, that I am the average American, and we really don't understand what all this economic stuff means.  I mean yesterday in conversation someone said, "Yeah, did you head the Dow dropped 700 points today."  And I responded by grunting, saying "Man" in a disgusted manner, and shaking my head back and forth saying unbelievable.  All the while in my head thinking, "I don't really even know what that means, but it seems to be bad."  I can't explain how or why, but I know it is bad.  But once again, I go back to, I think I am the average American.  I have questions like; Why did Bush propose a 700 billion dollar buyout?  Why was it rejected?  Did I want it to be accepted or rejected? Is Bush stupid? Is Congress stupid? Am I stupid? How did this happen anyway?  Is there someone to blame?  How will this affect our future?  And I think the big question is; What does this mean for my family?  Will my taxes go up? Will I be able to afford to pay my bills?  These are just some things that I, the average American, am curious about.  And if Scott Van Pelt or Amy Poehler could be the one to explain it to me, that would be great.

      Middle School Encounter - Middle School will meet this Sunday Morning (September 28th) from 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Youth Room.  We are in our series; Christ-Like Defined, and this Sunday we will be meeting in small groups to discuss whether or not the call to be Christ-like is an impossible task or not.  We will be discussing how God has equipped us and given us all we need to live the lives He has called us to.

High School (9th - 12th)

     

Worship Night - This Sunday, (September 28th) we will have our whole ministry (6th-12th) monthly worship night in the main auditorium from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

      Small Groups have started for our High School students.  (Small groups are divided by grade and by gender) If you are interested in joining a small group, please contact Dustin Hughes

Serve Night - CRCC Student Ministry (6th -12th) will meet this Wednesday, September 24th at CrossRoads from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for a serve night in our city. We will meet  at 6:00 p.m. for training and prayer and then divide into teams to go downtown and to the mall to pray for, speak with, and minister to people.

     

5th Quarter - CRCC Student Ministry (6th – 12th) will be meeting and going over to a "5th Quarter" at Rocky Creek Baptist Church on Friday, September 26th from 10:00 p.m. to Midnight.  We will meet at CrossRoads at 10:00 p.m. and ride over to Rocky Creek.  Parents will pick their student up at Rocky Creek at Midnight.  There will be food, music, prizes, and it is FREE.  Students must let Dustin know if they would like to go.

·         Middle School Encounter - Middle School will meet this Sunday Morning (September 21st) from 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Youth Room, and continue our series: Christ-Like Defined.  We will conclude our time (last 15 minutes) in the corporate worship service.

High School (9^th – 12^th)

·         High School Encounter - High School will meet Sunday, September 21st  in the youth room, and will continue the series; Christ-Like Defined - The Character of Christ.

I got an email today from my old boss and friend from where I used to work, Thompson & Co.  You see in my old life, I was an Account Executive in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Division at Thompson & Co.  It was an awesome job.  I LOVED that season of life.  My wife and I lived in Memphis TN on mud island, were helping with a church plant, spending a ton of time hanging out downtown, and of course working at an Ad Firm. I now love the suburban min-van, wife and 2.5 kids life now, but will always have nothing but fond memories of our time in Memphis.

Series

• For both Middle School and High School we will begin a new series this week called "Christ-Like Defined"  If you ever go to church, you hear all the time we need to be like Jesus.  Be like Jesus, WWJD!! But what does that mean exactly? Do we need to act like Him, talk like Him, do what He did, say what He said? And why should we be like Jesus? And how can it be done?  We are going to spend the next 4 weeks looking into greater detail about what it really means to be "Christ-Like"

Middle School (6^th – 8^th)

• Middle School will meet this morning from 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Youth Room.  We will begin our new series called, “Christ-Like Defined” and will conclude our time in the main service for corporate worship.

High School (9^th – 12^th)

• High School will meet tonight, September 7^th in the youth room, and will begin our new series, “Christ-Like Defined”
